Around the Bend Nature Tours is delighted to announce our tenth year of cultural and ecology based field trips and activities for Homeschool families. Unfortunately we lost our sponsorship by the Southwest Florida Water Management District. We will be charging $10/person this year (3 and under free)
With your $10/person field trip registration fee you receive
- Background information
- Standards-based curriculum, and
- Activities to follow up with at home.
Our guides are professionally certified by the National Association of Interpretation, the University of Florida Master Naturalist Program and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, and are continually updating their training.
We will begin this year's offerings at the 11th Annual Rye Pioneer Thanksgiving register at http://pioneerthanksgiving2011.eventbrite.com/
Thursday November 17, 2011 at Rye Preserve in Bradenton
9:30 am - Noon
Join us for our 11th Annual Cracker Thanksgiving at Rye. This is a reservation only event since we have such a super turnout!
We encourage the entire family to participate in this covered dish feast.
Hike to one of the first cemeteries on the west coast of Florida. Learn about the hardy pioneers who settled this ancient dune.
Be prepared to get your feet wet - we will be crossing a small creek with no bridge available. A short steep climb will follow.
- You are requested to bring a covered dish to share - to serve 8-10. A dish that is a tradition in your family is encouraged. You will be asked to share your food story at the feast.
If you have attended our activities before, join us this year also. We update our material regularly and always have something fresh. Some of the themes and activities are used each year, but repetition is good for kids – it helps set facts in their mind and as they grow they are able to understand different concepts
