Explore Archaeology

Students will participate in a simulated archaeological dig utilizing the concepts of stratigraphy and context.

Using a field journal students will interpret stratigraphy and discuss the importance of context for learning about people in the past. They will understand that detailed observation and accurate recording are part of the excavation process. By participating in this field trip students will become aware of historic preservation and the need for protection of archaeological resources.
Students will participate in up to 3 activities recording all data in their field journal:
  • Archaeological Dig (simulated)
  • Historic Walk through Site
  • Native American Culture - Food, Ethnobotany
  • Native American Technology
  • Mapping Activity
